Sell your construction business
Wild Rose Advisors advises the owners of general and specialty construction contractors, where a buyer reads the backlog, the bonding and the team as closely as the earnings.
For an owner thinking about selling a construction business, the first question is who sits on their side of the table. Wild Rose Advisors represents the owner only. It puts strategic acquirers, private equity and private investors in competition for the company, and keeps the process confidential, so the team, the customers and the suppliers hear nothing until the owner decides.
What buyers look for in a construction business
In this trade, value is driven by the share of the work that recurs without being sold again, more than by revenue.
- 01
Backlog and Margins
The contracted backlog and the margins it carries, project by project. A buyer prices the work it can see, and the history of how bids turned into results.
- 02
Bonding and Relationships
Bonding capacity, and the relationships with owners and general contractors that bring the work. Whether those relationships run through the owner or through the company decides much of the price.
- 03
Management and Exposure
The management team below the owner, and any open warranty, claims or litigation exposure. A buyer will find both in diligence, and an owner who sets them out first typically holds a stronger position.

The headline price is the least binding sentence in a letter of intent. Wild Rose Advisors compares every offer on its full terms.
Who buys construction companies
Buyers of construction companies include strategic acquirers expanding into a market or a trade, groups backed by private equity in the specialty trades, and private investors. Backlog, bonding and the team are read differently by each, which is the reason to put them in competition.
An owner who has received an approach may bring the offer to Wild Rose Advisors before signing anything. A letter of intent usually carries an exclusivity clause, and once it is signed the owner's leverage is largely gone.

What is my construction business worth?
A buyer prices the earnings the company produces for its owner, and the drivers above decide where in the range it sits. No published source gives a band for the trade on its own; the chart shows what completed sales achieved across all industries, by size.
The value estimate gives a range from published sale data and the owner's own figures, with what each improvement is worth.

Common questions
How do I sell my construction business without my team or customers finding out?
Buyers learn the company's name only after signing a confidentiality agreement, and the first materials describe the business without naming it. Wild Rose Advisors approaches buyers directly rather than listing the company, and the owner decides when the team, the customers and the suppliers are told.
What is my construction business worth?
Most owner-operated construction companies sell on a multiple of owner earnings, positioned by how much of the revenue recurs, how much rests on the owner and how much on the largest customers. The value estimate on this site gives a range from published sale data, and a written valuation from the firm follows a first conversation.
How is Wild Rose Advisors different from a business broker?
A business listing typically waits for buyers to respond. Wild Rose Advisors works as an M&A advisor to the owner: it approaches strategic acquirers, private equity and private investors directly and in confidence, sets a full sale beside a minority investment or a majority recapitalization so every option is priced, and negotiates the terms for the owner through closing. The firm acts only where it is permitted to, and does not offer its services where the work would require a business broker or real estate license it does not hold.
Wild Rose Advisors welcomes conversations with the owners of founder-owned companies.
